Ann-Margret was my first vintage fashion love. I saw her in Elvis movies when I was a kid but her performance in The Flintstones definitely sealed the deal for my 8 year old heart. I always loved her attitude and her wild energy. In my teen years when all of the girls were playing with lip plumpers and over drawn lips, Ann-Margret taught me that my thinner lips were just fine the way they are. Here are 10 style lessons from Ann-Margret.
1.) A fabulous mane of hair
Ann-Margret's, a natural brunette got her signature red from stylist to the stars Sydney Guilaroff. Guilaroff was also responsible for Lucy Ball's red hair and was a stylist for MGM stars throughout the golden age of Hollywood. He even styled Grace Kelly's hair for her wedding day. Ann-Margret's hair has always been my favorite with the gorgeous fall of curls and sexy volume.

2.) perfect cat eye liner
Ann-Margret and Ginger from Gilligan's Island were my inspirations for makeup since I started wearing it. With both came perfect winged liner. These days we have so many options for getting the retro cat eye look. Try felt tip liner pens, high pigmented gel liner and a brush or even cat eye stamps.

3.) cropped top
Ann-Margret is an actress and singer but she's also an incredible dancer and she showed off her dancer's physique in skin tight pants and playful crop tops. Here she is in Bye Bye Birdie in a pink ruffled crop that only a fun loving girl like Ann-Margret could pull off. She also wears several great crop top ensembles in Viva Las Vegas

4.) fabulous boomerang heeled mules
Ann-Margret's style featured a lot of sleek lines, solid colors and classic kitten heels but she really had fun with unique accessories. Here she wears the same incredible pair of boomerang mules. I hope one of the repro companies comes out with shoes like these soon so we can all own a pair!
5.) sharp brows
Ann-Margret always had wild facial expressions and her brows played a big part in that. Not too thick or thin and beautiful sharp arches. For the same look, try a small angled brush and brow pomade like NYX Tame and Frame.
6.) false lashes
AM knew how to play up her eyes with that cat eye liner but dark thick lashes really finished off the look. Look for lashes that are thick but not too long.

7.) crazy prints and bright colors
Between my love of AM and Peg Bundy, its a wonder that I don't have more crazy pants. If Ann-Margret is your style icon, try wild 60s florals, bright solids and anything with sparkle.

8.) Fabulous Beachwear
Ann-Margret was pretty scandalous in her extremely tight one-pieces but she really hit it out of the park in her bikinis. Throughout her career, she was seem in all kinds of fabulous beach wear from fresh faced and flirty in Viva Las Vegas to her bedazzled bikini in The Swinger

9.) calf-high fitted leather boots
Every 60s girl needs a great pair of tall boots and Ann-Margret was no exception. Wear them with shorts and a tunic for a 60s it girl look.

10.) black leggings and tights
Ann Margret wore a lot of black pantyhose and tights as pants. As a dancer, I can see how one would transition dance studio staples into fashion. Make it work in the modern world with black leggings and cigarette pants with 60s style sweaters, heels or boots.

I LOVED her in Viva Las Vegas! I love she's wearing pink lipstick to her red hair, normally a no-go, but as always she looks fabulous. But where are your lovely drawings for "style lessons with"? :)
