Happy Friday, my lovelies! I do love fridays. As a stay at home mom, you'd think that the day of the week doesn't make much of a difference but oh, it really does! Friday means my husband will be home for the next two days, I'll get to sleep in and of course, that it's time for another Fashion and Film Friday post, which I love.
This week's flick is Australia starring the stunning and always fashionable Nicole Kidman and equally good-looking Hugh Jackman. Australia was written and directed by Baz Luhrmann, who is one of those creative talents that you either totally love or totally can't stand. I'm on the "love" end of the spectrum personally. I think he's a visual genius and I'm a sucker for a great love story.
Anywho, Australia- as my husband put it, It's a love story, it's a war flick, it's an action movie, it's a political statement, it's a western, it's an epic because it's 3 and a half hours long....no joke! Don't get me wrong, it was a gorgeous movie to watch, had a good story, and so on but it was one of those that left me thinking" is it over yet?".... an hour later "is it over yet?"
Australia is the story of a wealthy English woman, Sarah Ashley, who becomes the owner of a cattle ranch in Australia after the death of her husband. In a fight with the cattle Baron, Lady Ashley and a handsome cowboy (Hugh Jackman) drive the cattle across the land to supply the army during WWII. Lady Ashley falls in love with an Aboriginal child and together with the cowboy, she fights to save him from being kidnapped by whites.
I absolutely loved the costumes in Australia, which were designed by Catherine Martin, who has paired with Luhrmann during the making of Moulin Rouge, Strictly Ballroom, Romeo and Juliet and the upcoming The Great Gatsby.
I was in awe of Nicole's beauty and costumes throughout the movie. Loved her riding outfits and her sass when riding! "Bring the horse" best line of the movie.

ReplyDeleteI loved the costumes and Hugh Jackman. That is all... ;)
ReplyDeleteyea, you gotta love Hugh Jackman!!
ReplyDeleteI've never seen this film, 3 and a half hours long, really???
ReplyDeleteThe outfits look great though.

I was rather disappointed with that movie. I normally love the movies Baz Luhrmann does but this one just felt a little disjointed to me. It is like there are two parts (the cattle part then the war part) and I just didn't feel they flowed very well together.
ReplyDeleteI felt the same way. Like I said, as soon as you thought it could have ended, it went on to something else. This movie could be filed under so many genres, it's crazy...but the costumes were awesome!!
