On Thursday, Pj and I went to see Snow White and the Huntsman.
The movie was visually exquisite and it had every aspect of a classic fairytale. I adore Charlize Theron and thought she was the most evil fairytale villain I have ever seen. Pj and I both had our doubts about a pants and armor wearing princess but the costumes were amazing as well. Although it received some rough reviews on the acting front, we both liked it a lot! What is your favorite fairytale?
For our date night, my outfit was inspired by fairy tales and art deco style. Since theaters are chilly even in the summer, I brought my vintage fur trimmed cardigan along. My 30's style skirt was handmade by me.
Since as far back as I can remember, my mom had a pair of Lucite heels in the back of her closet- leftover from a Marilyn Monroe Halloween costume. Throughout my childhood, I'd dig into that closet to find those shoes so I could parade around the house like a real Cinderella.
I always wanted my own glass slippers. Mom's were great but after a while of listening to the Lucite on tile noise, I had to return them to the closet.
21 years later and my feet are a size 10 and wider from 2 pregnancies. I've searched for my own "glass slippers" for years but they are difficult to find in larger sizes. Finally while window shopping on Etsy, I found this beautiful pair of vintage Lucite shoes with rhinestones in the heel and everything from Olive You Vintage and had to make them mine. Like Cinderella says, dreams do come true!
The necklace is a 1930's dress clip on a chain. I thought the shape and details looks like some sort of enchanted amulet from a fairy tale. Sadly, I forgot to grab my 30's sheer gloves on the way out the door!

oh you look beautiful and I love that necklace!
ReplyDeleteHave yet to see the movie - I shall have to get over my Kristin Stewart EUGH-ness - but I do really want to see it. It looks, from the trailers, like a fairy tale as The Grimms intended!
ReplyDeleteoh, I know! I am really not a fan of her and her acting in the film was just as dreadful as always but I think everything else made up for her blandness
DeleteThere are so many fairy tales I love, but my favorite is probably the Frog Prince.
ReplyDeleteI went to see the film last week. I loved it but Himself did not like it at all!
ReplyDeleteI love the skirt you are wearing, as well as the one in the rainy day blouse picture. Did you make the first skirt from a pattern, or freestyle? I am anywhere between a size 18-22 and find that it is really hard to find a skirt that sits well on me. I love the way the rainy day skirt sits. Are there any full frame pictures of the skirt? i think I might try and free hand it!
ReplyDeleteAhhh fairytales... I absolutely loved Once Upon A Time, can't wait for season two!! x
ReplyDeleteAhhh you are SO cute! I know that's not the point of this post but how adorable!
ReplyDeleteI actually liked this movie a lot more than I thought I would. My favorite is Beauty and the Beast because Belle is a book loving, brunette Frenchie just like me. :)
ReplyDeleteI love your outfit so much! How did you do your hair?

Oh I love glass slippers, I always wanted jelly shoes as a kid because that was as close as I could get! Will have to keep an eye out for my own pair someday.
ReplyDeleteI'm extremely busy both at work and at home, so I'm behind with your blog. I will read backwards, so watch out for comments on older posts. :)
ReplyDeleteThat dress clip is gorgeous, it does indeed give off a enchanted amulet feel. And it's greeeen! <3
ReplyDeleteHaven't had the chance to see Snow White and the Huntsman, but I plan to! Am I the only one who actually likes Kristen Stewart? :D
That third picture is just so pretty. I love your hairstyle and that fur sweater is so very, very lovely!
ReplyDeleteYou are such a strikingly beautiful woman, Brittany, with the loveliest of fashion senses. I adore the hit of fairy tale whimsy you injected into this outfit with the clear glass slippers, as well as every other element of this terrific movie night outfit.

I adore those plastic & lucite heels...they are definitely in the fairytale princess wardrobe :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm dying to see Snow White and the Huntsman, but I have to admit that I'm also a card-carrying member of the Kristin Stewart Non-Fan Club. She's like the female Keanu Reeves.
Smashing outfit!
ReplyDeleteI love your shoes and the fur trimmed cardigan, you looks fabulous ... as always!
ReplyDeleteI collect clear lucite shoes from the fifties, I'm lucky to wear size 6, you can see them here: http://samati.dk/fotos/sko_uk.htm
At the bottom there's also a link to my collection of clear lucite purses. :)
I'm glad to hear your opinion because I wasn't sure about the movie, but I never seem to agree with reviews anyway!
ReplyDeleteLove your outfit, and what a Cinderella story with your heels. They're gorgeous! Definitely meant to be for you! And a great idea to add a dress clip to a necklace. Dress clips are something I often see and then think I'll never make use of, and I forgot how there are so many different ways to style them.
I'm so glad you finally found your perfect lucite heels! They are gorgeous. x
