Last weekend, I found a great little antique shop on Route 66, outside of Bourbon, Missouri with a large collection of vintage magazines for a few bucks each! I couldn't help myself so I brought home a small stack of them. Here are some beautiful vintage fashions and laugh-out-loud advertisements from Woman's Home Companion, September 1939. I hope that you enjoy them, feel free to share!

How fun! Magazines are my absolute favorite thing to collect! They provide me with a useful fashion source as well as a good hour of entertainment. Not to mention the hilarious ads. :D I'm still looking for a good fashion magazine from the late 30s to the mid 40s within my budget, I have some movie and some Post mags from the 50s. The cool thing about magazines are that no one at antique shops ever go online to look up the selling price for them. I got a rare-ish MM cover magazine for $2 that I later found out was worth $40! I'll bet your new ones are worth far more than the few dollars you payed (not to mention all of the fun you get out of them).
ReplyDeleteI hate it when my neighbours razz me behind my back! Gorgeous and fun images. Thanks for sharing them :) I love articles on the "one dress styled x ways" theme.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! I like seeing the color fashion illustrations, it helps round out the picture of what was "in" at the time. I don''t have any magazines in my collection, but I clearly need to keep an eye out for them in the future.
ReplyDelete"Balenciaga does everything he can think of to make the waist look tiny."
ReplyDelete...But it didn't work, so he went for tent dresses instead! (At least that's what I associate with Balenciaga).
Oh my goodness gracious, and how much do I want a birdcage pillow now? That is too cute/whimsical/awesome for words! :)

ReplyDeleteNow I just have to make a birdcage pillow, just too cute to not to have one!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! I want that purple dress now, and I want to stitch up a birdcage pillow as well, it's so adorable!
